Young Guru stamps Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City‘ with the “classic” label, and praised K Dot for what he has done thus far in the music business.
Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City,’ was arguably the best album across any genre in 2012, although we gave that nod to Frank Ocean with K Dot coming in a close second.
The album is still extremely young, and has really undergone the test of time, but the talk of the town since the projects inception has been, “Is G.K.M.C. a classic album?”
Young Guru certainly thinks so. Jay-Z’s right hand man recently sat down with the team at HighSnobiety to talk about the record, and Kendrick Lamar’s movement as a whole.
” I’m from that era where you congratulate, and you recognize. When somebody like Kendrick comes along…for a long time I was riding with him, I ride with him and I ride with Ab-Soul and I ride with Ali. I love the whole concept of Ali basically doing the same thing that I was doing for Jay-Z, for Kendrick.”
Guru went on to confirm that the project is in fact a classic in his opinion. ” Yes, it’s absolutely a classic. It captured a moment in time,” Guru continued, ” I’m just glad that there’s a new crop of guys that know what they’re doing and have a respect for the music and approach it with a certain reverence.”
