If you’re a hip hop fan and aren’t excited for 2013, you should probably check to see if you still have a pulse at this point. Granted, it would be awfully tough to top 2012 in hip hop, a year in which we saw new stars emerge, some old ones return, and more variety across the genre than anytime its history. But, even with last year’s almost unbelievable list of releases – both mixtapes and albums alike – the next 365 days might give us even more quality material than the one before it.
With the 20th anniversary of one hip hop’s most respected and prolific collectives, a handful of some extremely promising commercial debuts, and more than a few big name projects, 2013 looks like it just might be hip hop’s greatest since the new millennium started. With that in mind, here are the 25 commercial projects that we’re looking forward to the most.
Don’t worry if your favorite artist isn’t represented though, and don’t hesitate to let us know what you’re waiting on the most if we missed it. Admittedly, we’re barely scratching the surface of what’s been rumored, speculated, and buzzed about. With so many up-and-coming artists, and “we’ll believe it when we hear it” projects, we could probably have tried to list 100 potential releases here and still missed more than few.
