Jay-Z may be a world famous music icon, but his latest encounter with an adorable elderly lady on the subway shows that not everyone knows just who he is.
During the opening of the Barclays Center, Jay-Z performed a handful of shows to celebrate the event, and he was seen catching the subway to the arena for each and every event.
During one of his commuting trips, the Roc Nation head honcho had an interaction with an older lady that had absolutely no idea who he was, but assumed by the security guards surrounding the rap star that he must be famous.
“Are you famous?” the sweet old woman asked Jay-Z, to which Hov responded with “Yes. Not very famous. You don’t me. I’ll get there someday.”
It turns out the little old lady was a well known New York artist by the name of Ellen Grossman, who later retold the experience to the team at NY Mag.
“I loved it! It was very energizing talking to Jay-Z. Just who he is, not having to do with all the cameras, but he really, genuinely spreads an aura of empowerment around him,” she stated. “And I suspect he was always able to do that even before fame. It’s not just directed at younger people. I picked up that feeling, too.”
