Drake is currently getting ready to hit Toronto, Canada for the third annual OVO Festival which goes down on August 5th in the Molson Amphitheatre. The YMCMB star recently offered some insight into why he decided to run his own fest and also spoke about his plans for the remainder of the summer.
Drake explained that the OVO Festival offered him a chance to give something back to his hometown. “I just wanted to create a special night for the city. When I grew up, I always used to hear how we never get anything good coming through Toronto. We actually do get some great things in Toronto compared to many other places, but it’s true that sometimes you might not see your favorite hip hop artist for a full year, or even two. Sometimes we do get skipped over here,” Drake told Now Toronto.
Drake added that he views his sound as an expression of his love for his hometown and added that The Weeknd also represents a vibe that is unique to the city. “When I think of myself, I think of Toronto. My music would never sound the way it does if it weren’t for Toronto. You talk about certain artists, and they sound like where they’re from. Myself and the Weeknd, we both just sound like Toronto,” said Drake.
Drake apparently only has one credit left in order to earn his high school diploma and for the remainder of the summer he’s planning going to focus on schoolwork. “I’m actually spending my summer graduating high school. That’s my main focus after OVO Fest. I only have one credit left, and I’m really excited about that,” Drake said.
