Nas is considered by many to not only be the greatest emcee alive, but the greatest emcee of all time. With that being said the man has amassed a discography that would be nearly impossible to break down, and could quite possibly be the most incredible music catalog in hip hop.
Sifting through all 9 of his studio albums including Illmatic, it Was Written, I am…, Nastradamus, Stillmatic, God’s Son, Street’s Disciple, Hip Hop Is Dead, and Untitled, we could have easily knocked out half of the list with Illmatic. We mean that as a huge compliment, and there is certainly plenty of Illmatic on the list.
Nas’ is dubbed one of the greatest emcees of all time for a reason. His music is incredible, his lyrics unprecedented, and for a man with a 20 year career he has stayed extremely consistent with the exception of a few hiccups, I won’t mention them.
As we head into the official release date of Nas’ tenth studio album ‘Life Is Good,’ it’s time to reflect upon what Nas has done up to this point, and why the hip hop community loves him as much as they do. All of the songs on the list may not be contenders for the top 20 songs as far as execution is concerned, meaning there are better songs from Nas, but the motives behind them may be an important part of either Nas’ or hip hop culture.
