During the BET Awards 2012 weekend, Busta Rhymes and Power 105.1 host Charlamagne Tha God got into a heated discussion at Melanie Fiona’s party in L.A. that apparently ended just before it turned into a serious altercation. According to Charlamagne, Busta was irate about the host’s criticism, but rather than let the dispute get out of hand, Charlamagne decided to leave the party.
Charlamagne explained that Busta was upset about comments made on The Wendy Williams show in 2004, but according to the host, he wasn’t involved with the show until several years later. “Busta was upset about an interview his baby momma did with Wendy Williams back in 2004. For people that don’t know I used to be Wendy William’s co-host. I was there from 2006 to the end of 2008,” explained Charlamagne.
Charlamagne did acknowledge that he’s been critical of Busta Rhymes’ more recent music, which didn’t help cool down the confrontation. “If you want me to talk about your music being wack in 2012, let’s talk about that. He goes, ‘You need to stop acting like a tough guy.’ I said, ‘Busta, you need to stop acting like a tough guy before it gets crazy in here.’ So he told me to put my drink down,” said the Power 105.1 host.
Busta Rhymes explained his side of the events and said that he was just looking to have a conversation with Charlamagne. “As a man, if there’s an issue, I’ll discuss it. And that’s it. I’m not out here trying to hype things on these platforms and social networks and act like something that I’m not. I’m not no gangsta, I’m not no tough guy, I’m just a man, and I live by certain morals and I live by certain principals and if they get compromised, we’re going to have to have a discussion. It’s as simple as that,” said Busta.
